Quilt binding strip calculator
Use the dimensions of a trimmed rectangular quilt, the usable length of one crosswise strip, and its cut width. The estimate allows one strip width per diagonal join and 10 inches beyond the perimeter to handle the ends.
Worked example
A 50 by 60-inch quilt needs seven strips when each measures 40 by 2½ inches. Six joined strips give only 227½ inches against a 230-inch target.
